In a news conference with reporters after meeting with the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, seemed attracted to Obama when he stated that Obama was “young, handsome, and evenly tanned”. Now, the mainstream media has picked this up and is trying to attack Berlusconi saying he is known for making controversial remarks, but I think they got this one twisted. I think this was Berlusconi’s no-homo way of saying Obama is “tall, dark, and handsome”. Well, I think I’m young, handsome, and evenly tanned! Maybe I’ll run for President! Maybe I’ll run for Prime Minister of Italy! What yall think?

I continue to search for positive news from the McCain camp, and so I decide to peruse the conservative Wall Street Journal. Here is what I found…

Charles Fried, a professor at Harvard Law School, has long been one of the most important conservative thinkers in the United States. Under President Reagan, he served, with great distinction, as Solicitor General of the United States. Since then, he has been prominently associated with several Republican leaders and candidates, most recently John McCain, for whom he expressed his enthusiastic support in January.

This week, Fried announced that he has voted for Obama-Biden by absentee ballot. In his letter to Trevor Potter, the General Counsel to the McCain-Palin campaign, he asked that his name be removed from the several campaign-related committees on which he serves. In that letter, he said that chief among the reasons for his decision “is the choice of Sarah Palin at a time of deep national crisis.”

Looks like Palin has a real chance for 2012, don’t cha think?

The Senator of the great state of Missouri, (R)”Kit” Bond, had some very positive things to say about Obama today. He was introducing Sarah Palin at a rally, but unfortunately didn’t have too many positive things to say about McCain or Palin in his introduction… at least nothing newsworthy that I could find online. Instead I found some very lovely things he said about Obama…

“Just this past week, we saw what Barack Obama said about judges,” Bond said. “He said, ‘I’m tired of these judges who want to follow what the Founding Fathers said and the Constitution. I want judges who have a heart, have an empathy for the teenage mom, the minority, the gay, the disabled. We want them to show empathy. We want them to show compassion.’”

Bond then seized on Obama’s comments to Joe The Plumber, saying the Democrat wants to redistribute wealth.

“He thinks this country should be a government—not a government of laws, but a government of compassion and empathy, not of laws,” Bond said.

I hope our “many” McCain supporter friends appreciate my attempt at reporting unbiased news from the campaign trail…

In my search to find positive news for McCain I was perusing through conservative commentary, and/or news with a conservative bias. Other than complaints about coverage, claims of tightening poll numbers (not news, but common sense), and articles defending Palin and accusing Obama of “shady” relationships, the only positive news I could find amongst conservative commentary (so far) was an article in (of all places) The American Conservative in which chief intellectual and early neo-conservative Francis Fukuyama- one of the men who wrote the book on neoconservatism- endorses Obama. Here is some of what he had to say…

I’m voting for Barack Obama this November for a very simple reason. It is hard to imagine a more disastrous presidency than that of George W. Bush. It was bad enough that he launched an unnecessary war and undermined the standing of the United States throughout the world in his first term. But in the waning days of his administration, he is presiding over a collapse of the American financial system and broader economy that will have consequences for years to come. As a general rule, democracies don’t work well if voters do not hold political parties accountable for failure. While John McCain is trying desperately to pretend that he never had anything to do with the Republican Party, I think it would a travesty to reward the Republicans for failure on such a grand scale.

McCain’s appeal was always that he could think for himself, but as the campaign has progressed, he has seemed simply erratic and hotheaded. His choice of Sarah Palin as a running mate was highly irresponsible; we have suffered under the current president who entered office without much knowledge of the world and was easily captured by the wrong advisers. McCain’s lurching from Reaganite free- marketer to populist tribune makes one wonder whether he has any underlying principles at all.

Funny thing I found out about the guy who has supported, reinforced, and basically wrote the policy book for every Republican President after Nixon- he is from the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago! That means Bill Ayers is a “guy from the neighborhood”, and one of the nations foremost neo-cons quite possibly “palled around with terorrists”! I know this doesn’t mean much now that he’s supporting Obama, but doesn’t that mean both Bush’s and Reagan were somehow involved with Ayers as well? I mean, the guy’s a “Chicago politician”, a University professor like Ayers, AND he’s from Hyde Park! Stuff you find out when you do a little research…

Porque yo lo dije!
